(Designed in partnership with Jill Billington, MSGD)
This site lies between the rear of the house and a gently flowing
river. Elsewhere on the site are found mature yew and beech hedging,
an old curving wall and several minor streams, which all suggested
a softly curving, linear theme for this design, in sympathy with
its riverside setting.
The strong geometry of the terrace, with the radiating wedges of
yew, is related to the architecture of the house and its projecting
bay.
The yews frame glimpses of both river and planting and act as end-stops
to the gentle, more organic, curving lines of brick, gravel and
planting within the Flow Garden itself.
