Enclosed
by high old walls and attractive out buildings, this small garden
was overgrown and difficult to use. The owners were keen to use
weathered, reclaimed materials to harmonise with house and environs
but did not want a period style design. As keen gardeners, they
wished to retain certain trees and shrubs.
The design opens up the centre of the garden to provide interesting
views and an easier route through. An existing Japanese iron barbecue
becomes a focus, as does the subtle patterning of stone and brick
paving.
Architectural planting complements the hard landscaping and a small
copper wall fountain contributes sound and movement. Copper fountain
